loveland aquarium

The new aquarium in Draper is open and I have wanted to go for such a long time so Nik decided to take me.  Let me just say that the aquarium is pretty sweet!  When you walk in there are four different sections.  There is ocean, Utah, South America, and Antarctica.  We went to the ocean first and Nik got to touch a starfish!

They have tons of different kinds of fish.  One of my favorite sections was the coral reef exhibit.  The fish were so bright and colorful.  It was so interesting to see them so close.  We saw seahorses, eels, and many different types of fish.

They had a little pool where you could touch some sting ray.  Nik was brave and touched them a few times.  I got really close to touching one but then at the last second I got too scared.  They look really scary when they are so close to you and start swimming at you super fast.

One of my favorite things at the aquarium was the tunnel.  You walk down under a huge fish tank with sharks and all sorts of animals swimming in there.  It was so cool to see sharks and all sorts of fish swimming above you!  It is definitely a must see.

We ended up going to all the different sections of the aquarium and they are all pretty cool.  I would say the ocean was my favorite though.  The jelly fish were way cool too.  I have never seen a live jelly fish before and they had color changing lights on them that made them look awesome.

The penguins were really fun to watch too.  They swim so fast and right up next to the glass.  It was so interesting to see all of these animals!  Since the aquarium just opened and they didn't have all the animals yet so we get to go back again for free!  I can't wait to go back and see what other cool animals they have!

tamil new year

On Sunday April 13th Nik and I celebrated the Tamil new year!  We met at the University of Utah with a bunch of other people from Sri Lanka to celebrate.  I loved seeing everyone's traditional clothing.  A friend of Nik's even had some clothes for him to change into haha.

We started out playing a bunch of games outside.  Nik almost won the race where he was hopping inside of a bag.  It was a close finish!  Abby and I then did the egg toss.  We didn't do too good haha.  We ended up cracking the egg on the first throw and were out.  The rest of the people playing were so good...I don't know how they did it.

Nik and I participated in a yogurt game.  Nik had to eat yogurt that I was spooning into his mouth.  The hard part was that I was blind folded.  We would have won first place but the couple next to us was cheating.  Such a bummer!

We had some delicious food and then played lots more games.  It was such a fun day.  I had a great day celebrating the new year with Nik and all his friends and family!  Can't wait to celebrate again next year!
