salt flats

Sunday evening we drove up to the salt flats.  Jenna and I had never been before and we have always wanted to so we finally decided that it was time to go!  As we drove past the great salt lake it was so beautiful.  I definitely want to go back and take pictures at the great salt lake since we didn't get to this time!

The drive was quite long...a lot longer than we expected.  The GPS said we still had quite a ways to go but Nik just wanted to get out since we were driving by all the salt flats.  Nik pulled over into the salt and then parked just about ten feet away from the road.

We hurried to take some pictures because the sun was setting and we knew that it would be pitch black before long.  Nik made us both taste the salt and let me just say it tasted nasty.  It was really strong and just had this awful flavor.

It was kind of difficult to take pictures at the salt flats because the camera had a hard time focusing on us.  It didn't help that we didn't have a lot of sunlight when we got there.  However, it was a very pretty sunset.

After trying our best to take a lot of pictures we decided we better start to head back since it was starting to get dark and it was a long drive.  We got over to the car, looked at the wheels, and knew we were stuck.  Nik put the car in reverse so Jenna and I pushed from the front.

The car didn't move anywhere.  After trying a few more times Nik went up to the road and tried to flag someone down to see if they could help pull us out with their car.  To our surprise no one stopped to help us.  Nik decided to call the police and the lady on the phone just laughed when she told him that we were stuck.

The police officer finally showed up 40 minutes later in this little car.  He got out of the car and told us that we needed to call a tow truck because we were stuck.  The whole time I was wondering why he even bothered coming out to see us in the middle of nowhere.  They should have just told us over the phone to call a tow truck.

After calling a few tow truck companies we found one that cost $120 and said he would be there in 40 minutes.  So much waiting!

The tow truck finally came and we were on our way home!!  Nik's car had this weird shaking the whole time we were driving and it didn't feel very safe.  We took it down to get checked and something definitely was broken!

Our short trip to the salt flats cost about $450!  But it was definitely one of the funnest adventures I have been on and we were laughing the whole time!  Nik had to pee three times while we were there and he made me pee my pants!
