merry christmas

Our first married Christmas was great!  We loved our little Christmas tree, nativity scene, decorations, and lights around our little apartment.  We spent lots of time with family and enjoyed spending more time with each other.  We spent Christmas Eve with Nik's family and ate some delicious food.  Afterwards we came back to our place and read the Christmas story out of the scriptures.  It's always been one of my favorite things to do to remember the reason for the season.

Nik and I then decided we would let each other open a gift each.  We both got too excited to give our gifts to each other so we decided to just open all of them since it was technically Christmas (around 1:30 in the morning haha).  We both loved seeing each other's reactions.  One of the greatest things about Christmas is serving and giving to others.

Christmas morning we slept in and then headed over to my families house.  My siblings draw names and do a gift exchange every year for Christmas.  It was fun to have Nik and Billy included in the gift exchange.  We exchanged our gifts and then opened more gifts from my parents.  They sure do like to spoil us!

We ate some delicious food and then waited for Emily to call us.  It was so fun to hear from her and about her experiences in the MTC.  Nik and I sure do miss her and are counting the days down.  We sure are proud of Hermana Eschmoozes.

After talking to Emily we visited both of my grandma's.  It was fun to visit them and see them again.  There's nothing quite like spending time with family for Christmas.  I loved our first married Christmas together and can't wait for many more to come.  To celebrate the Savior, His birth, the mortal live He lived, and the knowledge that He lives.  The Christmas season is the perfect time to love more, give more, be more thankful, and truly act as a disciple of Christ.

happy birthday!

Nik turned 23 on Monday!  We had a great time celebrating with friends, family, and each other.  We went to my house Sunday evening to celebrate with my family.  It was so fun to watch Nik's expression while he opened his gifts.

Birthdays were always my favorite when I was growing up because I always got so spoiled from my family.  I can't wait to spoil Nik every year.  :)  After celebrating at my house we headed over to celebrate with Nik's family.

Monday evening Nik opened the gifts I got him.  I loved seeing how happy and surprised he was at the gifts.  He had no clue I was going to get him a few things he had been wanting for a while.  Giving gifts brings so much joy.

We had a delicious dinner at Tsunami.  We even got a free dessert and it was so delicious!  We wanted to go downtown and look at the Christmas lights but it was freezing cold and super windy so we headed back home for a nice evening together.  Happy Birthday, Nik!  I can't wait to celebrate your 100th birthday with you!

thanksgiving week

Thanksgiving week was full of lots of fun activities for us.  Thanksgiving day we had a delicious meal with my family and a few of my cousins.  My favorite food was a new stuffing recipe that we cook in the crock pot.  It was so delicious!  The jello is always tasty as well.  After lunch we headed to my cousins house for pie with all of my family on my mom's side.  It was great to see them all and catch up.

Friday my whole family got together to take some family photos. This was the last time we'd all be together for a while since Emily was leaving on her mission in a few days and Andrew is in medical school.  It was fun to take pictures all together but it was so cold!

Saturday morning we all went to the Salt Lake temple and did an endowment session.  It was neat to go to the temple with my whole family.  I'm so thankful for temples and how I can feel so close to the Savior while inside.  I can't wait to travel the world and see each temple.

Sunday morning Emily had her farewell talk.  She did an amazing with her talk.  She will be a great missionary in Argentina.  Nik and I miss her lots already but are so excited for her.

halloween

The night before Halloween we carved pumpkins! It was Nik's first time carving a pumpkin so it was quite an adventure.  We had Autumn and Abby come over and we had such a great time together.

We collected all the seeds so that we could roast them and have a snack but we ended up burning them a little.  We'll just have to try again next year!

Abby carved a ghost, Autumn carved a bat, I carved an owl, and Nik carved two skeletons holding hands (although it looks like a skull too).  It was fun to see how they all turned out in the end.

Halloween night we took the pumpkins to my family's house since they didn't have any on their front steps.  We then helped answer the door for all the trick-or-treaters.  It was fun to see all the little kids and hand out candy to them.  I've never been a big fan of Halloween but spending them with Nik is always a blast!

fall adventures

A few weeks ago we went on a drive up little cottonwood canyon to see the fall leaves changing colors.  The weather has been switching a lot this year between hot and cold so the trees weren't their normal bright colors but it was still fun.

It was cool to see Alta with no snow and to drive along the paths where we would normally be skiing.  We are so blessed to live so close to such beautiful mountains.

I can't wait to take Nik skiing for his first time this year!  A few weekends ago we decided to go on a drive through the alpine loop.  We brought Lucy for our little adventure because she loves car rides.

We pulled over for a minute and there were a bunch of deer just a few feet from the car.  Lucy had her head out the window and was so fascinated by the deer.

We sure love this big cuddle bug.  It's so much fun to take her on adventures with us.  She's always smiling and having the best time ever.

When we got to the end we decided to take the trail over to Midway and drive back through Park City.  It was a little scary driving along a dirt and rock road along the side of a mountain but we safely made it back.

We were all so tired when we made it back home.  We had such a nice time driving up the canyon and it was so much fun with Lucy!

general conference

We had such a great conference weekend!  Nik made us some bacon and eggs for breakfast and then we watched the Saturday morning session in our pajamas eating some yummy snacks.  Nothing better than that.

Autumn and Katie came to stay with us for the weekend which was lots of fun.  We watched the afternoon session and afterwards we headed up to silver lake up big cottonwood canyon.  We wanted to see the fall leaves changing colors but it was super rainy so we couldn't see very much.

We decided to walk out to the lake anyways during the middle of a downpour.  Once we were soaked it finally stopped raining and we were able to see how pretty it was.  We sure are blessed to live so close to such beautiful mountains.

Autumn got us some tickets so we were able to go to the Sunday morning session!  When we got there they said that all the seats were taken and that they were closing the doors.  Nik pulled a few strings and got us in. :) It was so great to be there and listen to the prophet, apostles, and other speakers.

It was great to spend some time with Katie and Autumn for conference weekend.  I sure do miss being roommates with them.  It feels good to catch up and spend some time together.  Nik and I are looking forward to many more adventures together.

Some of my favorite quotes from conference...

"If we earnestly appeal to God, He takes us as we are - and makes us more than we ever imagined."
Neill F. Mariott

"There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by light."
Vern P. Stanfill

"As we make Christ the center of our lives, our fears will be replaced by the courage of our convictions."
Thomas S. Monson

"Small efforts sustained over time can produce significant results."
Devin G. Durrant

"God never loses sight of our eternal potential, even when we do."
Carole M. Stephens

"If our lives are centered in Jesus Christ, He can successfully mold us into who we need to be."
Richard J. Maynes

"None of us marry perfection, we marry potential."
Robert D. Hales

"He therefore knows our struggles, our heartaches, our temptations, and our suffering ... and because of this, His Atonement empowers him to succor us - to give us the strength to bear it all."
Dallin H. Oaks

We had a great weekend listening to some fantastic speakers.  I've learned to love General Conference so much.  I can't wait for next conference!

fishing

We have been trying to get into fishing lately and I'll have to say it's been a fail but a lot of fun.  Nik grew up fishing in the ocean and loved it so we thought we'd try in Utah.  However, fishing in lakes and rivers is a lot different than fishing in the ocean.

We tried fishing in the ocean while on our honeymoon but didn't catch anything.  We had a couple nibbles and two fish that fell off the hook so we were a little successful.  That's what started our interest in fishing!

So far we have tried fishing in Utah Lake, Silver Lake, and Jordan River.  We haven't had any luck so far but we will catch a fish one day!  I'm determined that we won't give up until we catch one.

It was so nice up at Silver Lake.  It was a little chilly but the perfect fall weather in the warm sun.  It's so pretty driving up the canyon to see all the leaves changing colors.  We can't wait to start all our fall adventures.

Last weekend it was our high school's homecoming game so we decided to go watch the football game.  It was fun to watch even though there's a brand new school and nothing looks the same as when we went to school there.

We also had the chance to take Nik's little brother's homecoming pictures.  It was fun to remember back to our high school days and going to morp and prom together.  I sure do miss those good old times.  So glad I married this high school sweetheart of mine.

the reception

After the sealing we headed to Wheeler Farm for our reception.  My family was amazing and helped plan and setup all the decorations.  We did everything from the chairs and tables to all the small details and decorations.  I'd have to say all the decorations turned out way better than I ever thought they would.  Even the workers at Wheeler Farm said the way we decorated was their very favorite and they see a wedding in there almost every night!

Billy did all of the signs outside and we were all impressed.  They looked so good!  We're so glad we have someone artistic in the family now. ;)

Nik and I wanted to get some pictures together around Wheeler Farm before the reception started.  We wanted the famous picture with the tall rows of trees but we found out that the farm removed the trees a few weeks before.  We were super bummed!

We wanted to get more pictures with our families but guests started showing up early so we ran out of time.  Luckily we got a few good ones of us together!

I would say the centerpieces on each table were one of my favorite decorations.  We bought about eight bouquets from Costco and then divided each bouquet among two mason jars.  They turned out so beautiful and weren't too costly either.  The little candles on each table gave the perfect little touch as well.

We decided to cater Indian food from Saffron Valley to make it unique and fit in with Nik's culture.  We also got a variety of cookies from Granite Bakery.  Nik and I were too busy to try any of the Indian food but we heard that it was delicious.  The cookies were a big hit too.

Another one of my favorite decorations was our big initials.  We found them at Hobby Lobby for a great deal.  Originally we were going to put them on the fireplace but my dad had this great idea to hang them from the wood.  They looked so great with the hung lights and the curtain backdrop.

You have to love the lights and the lit up curtain backdrop.  It made it feel so magical.  The lighting is such an important key and sets the mood!

We got our cake from Sweet Tooth Fairy and people told my family that it was super good.  We got a tiny bite and then guests ate the rest of the cake haha.  Jenna and Billy did the flower decorations on top and it made the cake look super good.  I really wanted to stuff a whole piece of cake in Nik's face but decided not to since I didn't want cake on my face. :)

My grandma made my garter for me which made it extra special.  I got to design it with her and I loved it.  Nik surprised everyone and when he came out with the garter he had a little stuffed minion.  It was funny to see the looks on all the guests faces.

After we danced Nik and I changed into our Tamil clothing.  We wanted to incorporate his culture into the wedding so it was a lot of fun.  I loved wearing the sari and we looked so great together.

Since we changed into our Tamil outfits everyone wanted pictures with us.  We took what seemed like endless pictures.  We were so happy when we were finally done!

My parents surprised us with these confetti cannons as we were leaving.  All this confetti exploded above us and it was so cool.  Since there was so much confetti we were pretty much eating it while walking out haha.

We had the best wedding day!  From time at the sealing to the reception it was all so much fun.  We are so thankful for everyone who came and for those that helped make it possible.
