bridals

Here's a few of our favorite bridal photos!  Nik and I took them back on June 10th.  It was super hot that day.  I was absolutely melting in my dress with so many layers and Nik was as well in his suite.  I'd have to say they were a lot of fun even though it was so dang hot.  You can't even tell that Nik and I were sweating that much!  Click on a photo to see it bigger.

honeymoon - newport beach!

Our next few days in Newport were quite an adventure.  We checked into our hotel and it was nothing what we expected.  It stunk, was really dark, and pretty much just awful.  Nik and I decided to go down to the beach since we were about a ten minute drive.  As soon as we started driving we realized that was a mistake.  We were driving around Newport for about two hours looking for a parking spot and just stuck in terrible traffic.  By the time we parked we were starving so we walked around until we found a place that was still open to eat.

The next day we decided we wanted to go fishing on the pier.  We went to walmart and bought some fishing gear and then headed to Huntington beach to start our fishing adventure.  Nik tried for a while and didn't have any luck.  I decided to give it a try and felt something start pulling on the fishing pole.  It started pulling pretty hard and was quite heavy.  Unfortunately, as I started reeling it in it fell off the hook and we didn't catch anything.

The US Surfing Open was going on and it was so cool to see.  There were huge waves and some great surfers.  It made the beach really crowded but was really fun to see.  After fishing for a couple hours we decided it was time for a break and we went swimming!

I have never been a big fan of the ocean but after swimming with Nik I have been dreaming of going back I loved it so much.  The waves were huge and I helped Nik conquer his fear of water.  We swam under the big crashing waves and had the best time.  Since the beach was so crowded we had to put out towels and bag close to the water.  A huge wave came in and almost took all of our belongings.  It sure was a pain cleaning up all the sand haha.

Afterwards we headed over to Balboa Island.  We got a frozen banana which was pretty good just super cold on our teeth.  Nik and I then went to a great Mexican place for dinner.  We'd have to say that Southern California has some of the best Mexican food since it is right next to Mexico.  We haven't found any Mexican food as good!

I was determined that we would catch a fish before we headed home the next morning so we headed to Newport beach pier to do some night fishing.  It was a lot colder than we expected but we stuck it out.  We saw a few different people catching sting rays which was a cool experience!  After waiting around for a while something started pulling on our pole again.  We were so excited that we were about to catch something but it fell off our hook again.  We can't wait to go back and catch something for real this time.

The next morning I woke up around 3:30 really sick to my stomach.  After taking some medicine we decided to just leave since we were already up and probably wouldn't get much more sleep.  Nik was the best and drove us all the way home while I slept and tried to feel better.

Overall, our honeymoon was so much fun!  Nik and I are definitely looking forward to going back and visiting San Diego and Newport area again.  We have been dreaming of the ocean and can't wait for more adventures.  We are so excited to travel the world together!

honeymoon - san diego!

The next stop on our honeymoon adventure was San Diego/Chula Vista!  After driving through endless traffic in California we were so excited to be at our hotel and see the beach the next morning.  Nik grew up right next to the beach in Sri Lanka and hadn't been in the ocean since he left in 2007 so we decided to go down to the beach late that night.  We drove over to silver strand state beach, parked the car, and sprinted to the ocean together.  Nik told me he was going to run straight into the ocean with his clothes on as soon as he saw the water but he refrained that night since it was really dark and a little chilly.

The next morning we headed to imperial beach for the day.  When we got there no one was in the water and there were a bunch of signs saying the water was contaminated and to enter at your own risk.  We relaxed on the beach and eventually went into the water once we saw some other people get in haha.  It was crazy for us to see the helicopters patrolling the Mexican border all day.

After swimming at the beach we decided to head up north a little bit.  We stopped at the San Diego Marina to see all the sailboats.  It was so pretty and we wish we could have gone on a sailboat ride.  We enjoyed our time at the marina with all the boats and palm trees.

Afterwards we headed up to mission beach for dinner at La Playa Taco Shop.  My family stayed at the hotel right by it a few years ago and we loved eating there so I decided Nik and I should go.  We then went and swam at mission beach and walked along the boardwalk.  Nik loved mission beach and said it was his favorite part of San Diego.

Later that night we decided to go up to la jolla beach to watch the sunset.  We got there right after sunset because of traffic but it was still really pretty.  It was chilly out so we didn't stay too long there.  Our ride home was intense because the roads were tiny and should have been one way only streets but these huge SUV's were trying to fit down the opposite side.  It was a tight squeeze!

The next morning we headed over to Coronado.  Nik and I thought it was so fun driving over the tall bridge.  We decided to swim in the bay since we went to three different beaches the day before.  While we were swimming the water became all sandy.  We looked down to see what was happening and we saw a stingray!

Nik played volleyball with some kids and then we headed over to Point Loma.  I think Point Loma is so pretty because it isn't developed at all.  We went down to see the tide pools but couldn't really see anything because it was high tide.

It was fun to watch the surfers and to see them get stuck in all the seaweed that was there.  Since there were a ton of big storms recently all the beaches were covered in a ton of seaweed.  We loved watching the waves come and hit the rocks while trying to splash us.

Nik decided he wanted to try getting splashed by the waves so he went down to the lower rocks.  This big wave came in and he got completely soaked haha.  That's what he got for trying to cool off a little.

We decided to head on our way to our hotel and noticed that the San Diego temple was close so we stopped by.  It was so beautiful.  We wish we would have planned more time so that we could have gone inside.  We'll just have to come down to San Diego again soon!  It was a fun two days in San Diego.  I would say our favorite part was mission beach.  It just had this relaxing feeling and we felt like we were in a little piece of paradise.  Onto our next destination, Newport Beach!

honeymoon - las vegas!

The morning after our wedding we started on the road for our honeymoon.  Our first stop was Las Vegas!!  Nik has never been anywhere in the US besides Utah, Idaho, and North Carolina so he was super excited to be traveling.  I can tell that we are going to travel a lot together!

It seemed like it took us forever to get to Vegas.  We checked into our hotel room and then decided to go swimming to cool down for a bit.  We stayed at Oasis at Gold Spike.  We found a really good deal online and it was actually pretty nice.  They even had a llama on their shampoo and soap which made us happy because llamas are our favorite!

Later that evening we drove around the strip on our way to the high roller.  The high roller is the world's largest ferris wheel and you can see all of Vegas because it goes 550 feet high!  Before going on the ferris wheel we walked around town for a little bit and found a place to eat.

I'd have to say that going on the high roller was actually pretty cool.  Once it started getting up high Nik and I both got a little sick because it shakes a little to stay flat.  The view was super cool though because of all the Vegas lights and hotels.

The next morning we drove down the strip and saw all the popular hotels.  We then went over and saw the classic welcome to Las Vegas sign.  Surprisingly I had never seen it before so it was fun for both of us to see it together!  Nik and I grabbed some lunch at In-N-Out and then headed on our way to our next stop, San Diego!
